The cafe @ Lead Tin Yellow sits tucked within the Stable Block Building at Rutland Square, offering a quiet retreat in Bakewell’s town centre. This cosy café is a popular pause spot for locals and visitors who want to step away from the bustling market scene and settle in with a thoughtfully made coffee and light meal.

The atmosphere leans into a relaxed, intimate vibe — tables are limited, which means it’s best to visit during quieter weekday mornings or early afternoons to avoid the occasional crowd. The inside feels snug and welcoming, fitting for anyone looking to linger over a cappuccino or a comforting hot chocolate. For those who cycle or take strolls around Bakewell and Chatsworth, it’s a convenient and friendly stop to recharge.

The menu shows a clear vegetarian focus with some standout items including the Bakewell Tart and freshly baked scones, alongside heartier options like the Club Sandwich and Tuna Melt. The drinks offer variety beyond usual café staples, featuring house-made soft drinks like gingery lemonade and sparkling hibiscus. Coffee options are well rounded, with specialty lattes such as turmeric and beetroot adding a unique local touch.

Regular customers appreciate the attentive service and the café’s ability to offer a break from the usual, especially given its largely veggie menu in a town where traditional fare dominates. The staff’s friendly approach complements the quiet charm, making it a fitting spot for a casual brunch, solo catch-up, or a laid-back meetup.

Overall, The cafe @ Lead Tin Yellow suits anyone after a calm, quality coffee experience paired with freshly prepared food in a setting that encourages unwinding. While space constraints mean it can get busy, especially weekends or during market days, the thoughtful menu and genuine ambiance make it a worthwhile visit for both locals and travelers exploring Bakewell.

Such a hidden gem! Amazing food, wonderful service. Would be great if they had more space and tables as they get full very quickly but makes sense with how great they are!

Outstanding Cafe with a majority veggie menu - a very welcome find in a town full of cafes offering more trad/limited menus. French onion soup grilled cheese sandwich + the Mumbai Club were particular highlights! Friendly team + great service!

Was in Bakewell for the food & drink festival and wanted some time away from the hustle & bustle and came across this gem of a place. Quirky, cosy and very friendly with the most amazing food. The Mumbai sandwich/salad is now one of the best sandwiches I've had, I honestly didn't want it to end ! My wife had a simple egg on toast and loved the taste. Even a mug of tea was a delight with a novel way of serving(I won't spoil the surprise) All in all we will 100% be heading back here, we enjoyed every minute. Cracking food served in a lovely atmosphere. Thanks to all staff. X

This place is absolutely amazing. If you’re a vegetarian (or not!) the food is sublime. The attention to detail, creativity and flavour combinations are so well thought out and put together with much care. The drinks are also incredible. A truly unique and memorable experience that I’ll remember. Worth waay more than 5*

This magical place, deserves more than 5 stars. There’s a huge amount of care, creativeness and thoughtfulness gone into this cafe. All our drinks, cakes and extra tasty bits were all spot on. We visited here today on our last day of holiday, and it’s left us all feeling rather sweet. Thank you very much for the service you provided us. It’ll be remembered!

Really wanted a cup.of loose leaf tea so googke found this cafe for me. Hidden away but what a find, absolutely brilliant. We had cheese scones which were delicious but all the food we saw looked amazing, no-one left anything on their plates whilst we were there. Really friendly staff too. Definitely recommend.
